There are some wedding days that seem to fall perfectly into place, and Alyssa and Adam's October wedding at The Pavilion at Orchard Ridge Farms was one of them. From the changing colors of fall and the warm light filtering through the oak trees to the quiet moments they shared with the people closest to them, the entire day had a feeling that was both beautiful and deeply personal.
The day began at the Copperstone Inn, where Alyssa and her bridesmaids got ready before heading up the hill for the ceremony. With the fall colors surrounding the property and the Pavilion overlooking the pond, Orchard Ridge Farms provided a beautiful backdrop for the day without ever feeling like the focus was on the setting instead of the people.
Alyssa and Adam's ceremony was especially meaningful because Alyssa's sister-in-law officiated. There is something special about having someone who knows you well standing beside you as you make that commitment, and it made the ceremony feel even more personal.
Afterward, we had plenty of time to explore the property for portraits. We moved between the oak trees, open spaces, and other areas around the farm, allowing the scenery and the changing light to become part of their photographs rather than keeping them in one place. As the afternoon faded into evening, we made our way down toward the pond where the softer light gave us a few quiet minutes together before returning to the reception.
The rest of the evening was filled with everything you'd hope for at a wedding: good food, a packed dance floor, laughter, and plenty of time spent with family and friends. We also stepped outside for a few after-dark photographs before the night came to an end.

About The Pavilion at Orchard Ridge Farms
The Pavilion at Orchard Ridge Farms is one of my favorite places to photograph weddings in Northern Illinois. Located in Rockton, Illinois, just outside Rockford and near the Illinois Wisconsin border, the property gives couples a lot of variety without having to leave the venue.
There are the large oak trees around the ceremony site, the pond, open fields, the apple orchard, and the Pavilion itself. Each area has a different look and works with different types of light throughout the day.
For a photographer, that variety makes a big difference. It means we can move around the property and create photographs that feel different from one another without spending a large part of the wedding day traveling from one location to another.
Wedding Photography at The Pavilion at Orchard Ridge Farms
Alyssa and Adam's October wedding was a great example of how much variety you can get from the property. Their day started at the Copperstone Inn before moving outside for their ceremony beneath the oak tree. From there, we had the rest of the property available for portraits before the reception and later returned to the pond for some of the softer evening light.
I don't want couples spending their entire wedding day standing in one place and posing for photographs. I'll give you direction when you need it and help make sure you get the portraits you want, but I also want there to be room for the photographs that happen naturally.
Some of the photographs I enjoy most are the ones that happen between the planned moments. A laugh during portraits, a quick glance between the two of you, friends and family reacting during the reception, or a few quiet minutes together after the sun starts to go down.
Those moments are just as much a part of your wedding story as the formal portraits.
Planning Your Wedding Photography at Orchard Ridge Farms
One of the advantages of getting married at The Pavilion at Orchard Ridge Farms is that we can build some flexibility into the photography timeline. The property gives us several different settings to work with, so we don't have to force every portrait into one small part of the day.
A first look can give a couple more time together before the ceremony and allow us to take care of some portraits earlier in the day. The oak trees and open areas around the property can work beautifully for portraits during the afternoon, while the pond can be especially nice later in the day when the light starts to soften.
For an October wedding, I also like leaving some room for the changing light and fall colors. The day doesn't have to be perfectly timed down to the minute. Sometimes the best thing we can do is take advantage of the light we have when it happens.
